What is the Abortion Pill?
Also known as medication abortion or medical abortion, is a non-surgical method used to terminate an early pregnancy. It involves using a combination of two medications, which work together to safely and effectively end the pregnancy.
The Medical Process
This method of medical abortion uses medically approved abortion pills to end the pregnancy safely and effectively. At your initial visit, a state of the art trans-vaginal sonogram will be performed in our office to confirm the pregnancy and determine your eligibility to use this abortion method.
After this, you will be provided with a series of pills to abort the pregnancy. The first pill is taken orally at our offices or in the privacy of your own home. The second set of pills is then taken 24 to 48 hours later as directed.
These last two pills cause the uterus to contract, resulting in the expulsion of the pregnancy tissue. This method is safe and effective. Many women see this as a desirable alternative to surgery and anesthesia.
One Day Abortion
Most of our patients can return to work or school the day after the procedure. We encourage our patients to return to the office in two weeks for a follow-up visit. Contraception will be discussed. Staff is always available for any emergencies or questions you may have.

What Happens After Taking Abortion Pills?
The Abortion Pills blocks the hormone needed for pregnancy to continue. Most women can carry on their usual lives at home or work after taking the pills, but may have some bleeding and period-like pains.
Symptoms & Bleeding
You'll experience bleeding and some cramping. It's very important you use pads and not tampons to avoid infection. You'll be advised to take pain relief in the form of painkillers. The cramps may become strong – this is a normal part of the abortion process.
Bleeding may get heavier and you may pass clots. This is usually at the time you begin to lose your pregnancy. Often the pregnancy is passed into the toilet.
Side Effects & Recovery
Side effects of the medication may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and shivering. Once the pregnancy has been passed, your bleeding will usually lessen and become like a slightly heavier period.
It may continue to be quite heavy for a day or two as the uterus needs to contract and return to its normal size. Most women pass the pregnancy within 4 or 5 hours after taking the medication. For others it can be quicker or take longer.
